Hurricane Irene
We are in New York City right now celebrating my sweet husband's birthday. We heard a hurricane might be heading that way as drve to the airport on Wednesday. On Friday we knew it was on it's way and as soon as the airline allowed, we changed our flight from Sun to Sat to try and get away ahead of the storm. We were really disappointed because we would miss our one broadway show we had planned, but it seemed wise to get out. Then Friday night we heard ALL flights on Saturday were cancelled. We frantically spent over an hour trying to get through to the airline to rebook for Monday. We were lucky enough to keep our hotel room, but could not move to a lower floor as the hotel is sold out. my in-laws reassured that they would keep the kids and that all was well on the home front.
This morning was dark and rainy but we went out and got foodfrom Zabors, hit lots of drugstores till we finally found flashlights and stocked up on wine. The transit system in the city shut down at noon and our play was cancelled. We had a nice lunch and made dinner reservations in our hotel. It's very quiet around here and though the rain is steady, it truly is the calm before the storm. The big rain should start later this evenin with the worst from Midnight through noon tomorrow.
I really miss the kids and wish we could have gotten home, but we are making the best of it and enjoying the forced relaxation time
Other than the hurricane we've been having a great time. We visited the museum of natural history, had fantastic dinners at the Ocean Grill, Blue Fin, Il Cortille, and The Boathouse. I sang at Don't Tell Mama ( and was utterly terrified) and we had great afternoon at this aawesome hotel called the Standard with my great friend from school Jamey. I have lots of great pictures and lots of stories but I'm typing this on my phone so I'll stop now. I'll try to keep you updated on Facebook and perhaps here as well.
Keeps in your thoughts. XO, amber
