Rear Ended

I dropped off Michael at the car rental place this morning and then headed toward the railroad tracks. As I looked ahead, I saw school bus had stopped at the tracks and put out it's stop sign. The car in front of me slammed on it's brakes to stop. I slammed on my brakes to stop and stopped before I hit him. The large van behind me slammed on his brakes, but not soon enough. He hit me with a solid, loud jolt. He was a very nice man who hugged me and asked me if I was okay. Immediately my neck was sore and I was in shock, but I was surprised to see that my car was only slightly damaged. The back bumper was scraped down to the metal and will need to be replaced, but wasn't even dented. The front of the van that hit me was much more damaged. The bumper was curled in so far that it wasn't drivable. Yay for the Subaru! It is tough! The Ford F250 had much more damage. I only hope the claims process is not horrible. Also, my back and neck have continued to seize u

Michael's Birthday Weekend

Image
We love birthdays around here. This last weekend was Michael's 42nd birthday and we celebrated the heck out of it. Friday morning Clark picked up the boys for their week with the grandparents. I was teary when they left, but also elated. I had physical therapy for my wrist in the morning and then cleaned the house, picked up the cake and went to get my hair braided for the pool party. (With my right wrist out of commission, I can't do anything cute with my hair on my own.) Michael got home just in time for us to put on our suits and head over to my parents' pool. We had the party catered by Freebirds Burrito and they came out and put up quite a spread. I loved how easy this made the whole party. Totally worth it in my opinion. We put out the party favors- custom t-shirts that read, "Tonight I'm going to get it WET on both sides!", which no one knows the true meaning of but has become a favorite story/catch phrase of Michael's, and fashion sunglas

Katie, my Katie

My dearest friend Katie and her son Soren just left to return to the Pacific Northwest this morning. We had a fabulous week together. We picked them up at he airport on Thursday and met Michael back at the house around 5. We had a quick dinner and then we loaded up both cars and headed for Port Aransas. We put the kids down and then stayed up drinking wine and talking. Perfect. Friday we spent the day on the beach. There were no waves and no wind and when I waded in to my neck I could still see my toes! There was no seaweed either, but there was tar. Michael and Katie spent all day talking and playing with the kids. Saturday morning we went into town where we played at the playground, got candy at Winton's and ate lunch at Shell's. We spent the afternoon back on the beach and had dinner in. Sunday we swam at the pool in the morning and had lunch in the condo. Then Katie and I darted into town for provisions and Michael took all three boys to the gift shops. We sp

Family weekend and Ellie leaving

We spent this last weekend doing family things and staying very busy. On Friday night, we watched The Princess Bride for family movie night. It was awesome! Saturday morning, Michael took the boys to engineering camp open house and I went to get my hair done and did a quick trip to Austin to sell some toys on craigslist. We met back up for lunch at home and then drove down to New Braunfels to see the movie, Planes. Michael and I thought it was pretty terrible and should have gone direct to DVD, but the kids liked it. We came out of the movie into a huge thunderstorm and we were thrilled as we are in a terrible drought. When we got back to San Marcos, we decided to throw diet and money to the wind and have dinner at the teppanyaki grill at Kobe. The kids enjoyed the show there while Michael and I talked travel and our future plans. It was lovely, and since we requested no butter and only half as much soy sauce as usual, we didn't even feel sick after! Sunday morning we c

Davis Family Reunion- gramp's 90th Birthday party-daily summer life

On Saturday we had a big party at my parents' house to celebrate my Gramp's 90th birthday. All of my Davis relatives from Arkansas came in Wednesday evening at the end of happy hour and stayed till early Monday morning. Marcie and Ann drove in from New Mexico and Manie came in from Austin and we had all the Davis cousins together except for my sister who was at the beach for her birthday weekend. (we missed her!) We did a lot of lying by the pool and did big grill dinners every evening. my kids and all their second cousins adored each other and did lots of playing and swimming and eating and watching cartoons. Saturday we had the big party and it was wonderful! Gramp's whole side of his family came and there was so much love in the room. I'm so glad we could honor my Gramp and throw him a party. Everyone had a job to do and we all did it and had a great time. I think we got some great group photos and I'll post them when I get them. Rob's blue grass
