5th Birthday Party, San Antonio Zoo, and Witte Museum

Image
Last weekend was fun, but crazy! We started with Davis' 5th birthday party, held at Pinnacle Cheer. We had the entire gym from 2-4 and we made use of it with 27 children in attendance. The kids ran and bounced and played. The theme of the party was Dinosaur Train, which is Davis' favorite tv show featuring his favorite obsession right now, Dinosaurs. Michael made a fun playlist on his ipod for the party and I made a cake. Davis decided at the last moment that he wanted a pinata instead of favor bags, so my mom dashed off and found him a race car pinata (his second choice if dinosaurs weren't available) and I stuffed it with the favors I had planned on putting in the bags. We had dino gliders, dinosaur train stickers, tattoos, plastic "dino" eggs stuffed with Robin's eggs candy. I also had lollipops in shape of dinosaurs in a basket as additional favors. The party went well and Davis had a great time. I had been worried that he would be overwhelmed wi

Davis is 5

Well, my first-born is five today. He is officially a big boy. He is lean and tall and athletic. His face has slimmed out. He speaks well and clearly and has a huge vocabulary. He is really reading now and doing tons of math. His new obsessions are dinosaurs and space, but he still adores race cars and riding his bike. He's not picky about food and is willing to try most things. Davis sings on pitch and loves to make up songs and dance and sing and play his guitar. He is a very social creature and adores being with his friends. He still loves his dad best, but somehow always wants me when he needs help, needs kisses, or gets his feelings hurt. Davis is extremely independent and self-contained. He does not wear his heart on his sleeve. Emotions run deep in this child and he notices and takes in everything. He will push you away if you get too close, but when you get through, it makes it all that more special. Davis can be willful and defiant, always testing his boundari

Busy! Music, Garden, Friends, Birthdays and More.

I've been so busy this week. I'm busy still, but I thought I'd take a few minutes to poke my head into the blogosphere and say hello. Hello! We went to Houston last weekend to see the in-laws and celebrate some birthdays. We went to the Museum of Natural History in Sugar Land and the boys really loved it. Martha and Clark gave Davis a new game called Zingo. Both Davis and Sam love it and play it well and it became an immediate favorite. Martha took me out for a lovely spa morning and lunch for my birthday as well. It was a real treat. This week I taught music at the kids' Montessori school. I taught on both Tuesday and Thursday and will teach again next week. I was so nervous to do it and really had stage fright on Tuesday, but it went well and I ended up really enjoying it. The kids are sweet and smart and the whole thing comes naturally to me. I'll take some pictures this week and put them up. I'm really glad I volunteered to do this. I've m

Beach Birthday Weekend

Image
I turned thirty-three this past weekend. In order to celebrate we headed down to Port Aransas. It was a great weekend. The weather was beautiful and the company was most excellent. We went bike riding, watched the dolphins, played at the playground, spent a day on the beach, tried to fly kites, drank champagne, ate cake, opened presents and had an all around pretty perfect beach weekend. Here's to many more!

A Promotion!

Michael has been working hard for a promotion in his company for a while. He has been studying, getting new certifications and working his rear end off in general. Yesterday he got the call that he has been promoted! In a week or so, he will begin a new position as Physical Security Pre-Sales Engineer with his company that's he's been with for 12 years, Insight. This is a perfect fit for him with his skills and background in both sales and engineering. He is really happy and so are we! Plus there is a raise! And a bonus! With my birthday and Michael's promotion there will be a lot of celebrating around here for the next few days. To Michael!

South Beach Wine and Food Festival

We headed down to Miami last Friday for the Food Network's Wine and Food festival. We went with mom and dad and without the kids. My mother-in-law drove down to watch the kids for us so that we could go. (I cannot say enough nice things about my mother-in-law. She is absolutely amazing and I am so lucky to have her.) We booked a Jet Blue flight directly to Ft. Lauderdale and thought we were pretty smart to do it until we found out that our flight was coming in from New York and that New York was having a blizzard! We waited as patiently as possible in the Admiral's club (Thanks Dad!) for several hours until our plane arrived. Turns out it was one of the last planes to get out of New York that day. After that it was smooth sailing (flying) and we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale only two hours later than planned. Unfortunately, those two hours were too long for the fabulous limousine and driver mom and dad had hired to surprise us to wait. (Thanks for the thought though!) We g
