Update on Sam and Life

Image
Sam is better. He is not well, as he as chronic pain, but we have gotten it back down to a manageable level. We went on Thursday to see a pediatric psychologist at the headache clinic and then saw our neurologist again. She is an expert in pediatric migraines and we are so lucky to be her patient. She gave us a new preventative and we again tried some nasal dHE. This time, something worked as the pain levels went from a 7 to a tolerable two over 24 hours. The psychologist also gave us some, hard, but good advice, explaining that we had to send Sam to school, even in pain. He needs a normal life and sometimes it will hurt him. We also have to stop asking him how he is or if his head hurts. It's very difficult. For all of us. Sam was plenty pissed after the psychologist appointment, but I appreciated the guidance and reminder that we had to keep living our life. Samuel made it through a partial day on Thursday and all day on Friday, even getting some work done in after care with his

And More Hospital. And More Migraine.

We got discharged Sunday, Feb 11. We cuddled in the house and I wrote my blog post. Monday morning we went to the Neurology Clinic at the hospital and saw our neurologist. She said Sam's headache was not acceptable. We had tried the nasal Dhe and it wasn't working. I drove off to school and Michael took Sam home. I had a phone call from a nurse that afternoon that we were having a direct admit the next morning for PICC line which would help Samuel tolerate the Dhe. The next morning was crazy as we thought we had to be there at 9, but found out our arrival time was 7:30. Michael and I had not slept the night before much and were zonked. We ditched Davis at school, grabbed our bags and arrived late to the hospital. Sam was very nervous for the PICC line, (he had snuck his phone into bed the night before and GOOGLED it) but it went very well. I drove to school to teach and Michael and Sam got admitted upstairs, still in 6West,but on the other side of the hallway, LOL. Tuesday I

More Migraine, More Hospital

Samuel has had another migraine episode. Samuel was diagnosed with chronic migraine last November, but we thought we had them under control. Unfortunately, Sam seems to be a kid who can’t kick them once he gets them. Since last Monday, when Sam reported a terrible migraine and left school, we have done over the counter meds, prescription meds, an IV cocktail infusion and then from Friday until today he was in the hospital for Dhe doses which can only be done in the hospital. The neurologist wanted us in on Wednesday, but no bed became available until Friday because of flu season. We checked in on Friday afternoon and were in the same wing as last time. We really love this hospital and feel very lucky to be able to have it nearby. It is beautiful. The child life people there are incredible. They had the sweetest thing where they gave all the patients flashlights during the day and then that night the Girl Scouts stood outside and flashed their lights while the patients did the same in

For Andres's birthday, he wanted to see an NBA game. I'm so happy because the whole crew came up to see two Denver Nuggets games and stayed with us! We had the best time being together. I love them all so much.
