Exhausted

I am so, so, so, so, so tired. I'm going to bed. At 8:53PM. Good night all.

Home from the Hospital

On Wednesday evening, Michael was released from the hospital. We were so happy to have hime home. Thursday was insane. I realized after I picked up Michael from the hospital that I have an infection as well, so I'm pretty wiped, but I'm on antibiotics so I'm getting better. I threw down the "my husband's been in the hospital with mrsa" card and got a doctor appt first thing Thursday morning even though they didn't have any open appointment times.. I took the kids to the dentist shortly after and then took Michael to wound care in the afternoon. Friday Michael was feeling much better and was trying to do too much. He was not listening to me and he was not taking it easy enough. He worked all day. Davis is finally feeling safe enough to really let us have it after feeling stressed all week. He's throwing tantrums and being defiant etc. Mom and Dad left for Taos first thing on Friday after postponing their trip, but Marcie and Ann are here and

Top Ten Good Things about Being in the Hospital

Image
1. Triple digit heat doesn't affect us at all. 2. No one expects us to work. 3. We get to watch a movie in the middle of the day. 4. We got beautiful flowers delivered. 5. New hospital logo socks! With tread! 6. Breakfast in bed. And lunch, and dinner. 7. Free paper robe! And purple plastic gloves! ( I know it's only seven. We couldn't think of anymore.)

Michael is in the Hospital

Michael got admitted to the hospital today.  Friday afternoon we heard from the surgeon that they didn't take our insurance and sent us to the Seton ER. They treated it and gave us a new more powerful antibiotic.  We came back this morning to the ER to have the packing removed.  The leg was much worse instead of better and the culture came back as MRSA staph.  This is an antibiotic resistant infection.  They immediately admitted him and put him on an IV antibiotic that they said works well on this strain of staph. They also are giving him morphine for the pain every four hours.   They said he should be here for a while.  He could possibly get out by Tuesday, but could be here till Thusday.  This stuff is bad.  We are trying to stay positive and deal with this day by day. The good news is that the morphine is working great for him.  His pain is gone and he is relaxed, and feeling okay. The other good news is that the doctors are all optimistic that they can treat this and that h

Sam got Glasses

Image
Sam failed his eye test at his well check in November. They suggested that sometime this year I take him in and get him an eye exam. I finally took both boys last week to TSO and got them checked out. Davis did well and has great eye sight. We found out that Sam has an astigmatism in both eyes, but especially his right which makes everything a bit blurry. They also said that in another year as his eyes continue to mature, he will probably be nearsighted. We got a prescription for glasses and went to pick some out. The kids enjoyed picking frames and I got the best, most bendy and sturdy glasses they had. We picked up the finished pair this morning before camp. Sam put them on and seemed to really enjoy seeing things. Davis and I were very excited and trying to make him feel really good about them and how he could see the world, but he stayed pretty quiet. When we got to camp I opened his door to help him out of the van and he burst into tears. He sobbed and sobbed. When

We got trouble folks.

This week has been a bit of a struggle. We've had some good points as well. The kids have been going to Camp Hope and they really like it. They've been happy and healthy and are great kids. I've also really enjoyed getting to go back to work this week and it has made things a lot better. I was feeling a lot of guilt about not being helpful enough and I also just love getting back into the routine and getting to spend time with my dad. However, this week I've been having some depression that is probably hormone related. I'm still trying to figure all that out, but it leaves me feeling unhappy about the present and not excited about the future. I know it's in my head, but it's keeping me down. The good news is that I'm feeling better as the week goes on and so perhaps this will be short lived. I missed book group for lots of reasons including the fact that Michael was out of town and my sitter wasn't available and now I regret it. I've als

Father's Day

Image
We had a lovely Father's Day weekend. Yesterday we cleaned and went to lunch and I cooked all day. We had an impromptu dinner party for twelve. I made an Italian dinner with a caprese salad, homemade almond basil pesto in hot buttered arborio rice, an antipasto platter of roasted eggplant and pan sautéed zucchini coins, and bruschetta with a rosemary garlic white bean topping. For dessert we had store bought angel food cake with strawberries and Blue bell vanilla ice cream. I don't bake. It was fun to do. This morning we rose early and I made breakfast and then Michael opened his presents. He got a frisbee game called Kan Jam and a video game. Then Michael and the boys played outside and took a quick trip to Lowes. I made homemade Nutella gelato and a southwestern pasta salad to take over to mom and dad's for a potluck lunch. Around 11:30 we drove over to Casa Pacifica and spent our afternoon there. We had a gorgeous lunch and then spent two hours in th

Davis has the fever

Davis woke up at 5AM with 103 temp. Sigh. He's missing his last day of soccer camp, but he seems in good spirits. Let's hope this is gone in 24 hrs like Sam's fever was. Stupid germs.

Soccer and Sick

Image
My boys have soccer camp this week. They have been so excited. Sam, in particular, has been wanting to take soccer for two years. I promised them that this year they could go to soccer camp and I booked a week at the Kat Conner academy here at Texas State as soon as I could. I took the list to Academy and wandered around blindly until I could figure out what shin guards and soccer socks were and where to find them. I bought them soccer balls and texted my sister to find out whether shin guards went on top of socks or underneath. Yesterday we dressed them in the soccer outfits, slathered them with sunscreen and delivered them to camp bright and early in the morning. I cannot tell you the level of excitement in my boys. Michael picked them up at noon and took them home. He put them in front of a movie and handed out lunch and went back to work. When I got home from work around 12:30, Michael told me that Sam hated camp and wouldn't eat his lunch. He also told me tha

Family Weekend

Image
We had a wonderful weekend with our family. This was our annual family foundation weekend. Tiff and Keith and Kade drove in on Friday evening. Saturday morning we went down to the river to watch the Texas Water Safari. Our sitter came at 10 and the grownups settled ourselves in the big room to have our meeting. We had a great time and did lots of charity researching and application reviewing. At three we'd mostly wrapped up and we let the sitter go and spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool. Michael went and picked us up a ton of sushi and we had a sushi feast for dinner. This morning we went back over there and made a huge breakfast and then spent some more quality in the pool. We had a wonderful weekend with our family. I didn't take any pictures except for one with my phone at the river safari. I was having too much fun to take pictures. I'm so glad our foundation brings our family together this way.

Pool Party

Image
We had a pool party at my parents' house on Thursday for a friend of ours who was turning 7. It was great weather and so much fun. We played in the pool with all of our great friends and had a wonderful dinner from the grill. The electricity went out and we thought for a while that Pappy Hour, who were all set up and ready to go, wouldn't be able to play, but at the last minute, the electricity came on and then they rocked a shortened set. It was a wonderful pool party. Happy Birthday Sadie!

Port Aransas June 2012

Image
We spent last weekend in Port A. We drove down on Friday morning and stopped for lunch at Joe's Crab Shack in Corpus Christi. We like that place 'cause they have an outside playground next to tables for the kids. Then we drove to the condo, unpacked and spent the whole afternoon at the pool. It was remarkable because we had the whole thing to ourselves the entire afternoon. Super fun! I made dinner and we put the kids to bed and shortly after that, our friends Stacey and Chris showed up with their girls. We had a quiet evening chatting and went to bed early. Saturday we spent the whole day at the beach. Our friends Rachael and David and their boys had driven their RV down and met us on the beach. We put up the EZ up and camped all day. I made a lunch for us all at the condo and then we went back to the beach. We let the kids get ice cream from the ice cream truck and they boogie boarded like rock stars all day. In the late afternoon, we cleaned up and drove
