Broadway Workshop NYC

Image
On Sunday last, we got to the airport ready for Sam to fly to California to be with his grandparents and for Michael and I to fly to NYC. Sam got off just fine, but our flight to La Guardia was seriously delayed. Michael and I burned some lounge passes and went to wait out the delay in the united lounge and watch the final world cup match. After it ended we got a text that our flight was cancelled. NOOOOOOOOOO! My Broadway workshop was the following day and I did not want to miss it. In addition, we had tickets to Birdland that evening for the Django fest which was to be our special anniversary treat. It didn't matter. Flights were all booked or cancelled. Southwest idiots rebooked us for Tuesday evening- two days from then. I frantically moved points around and lost my mind. Finally we were re booked for a flight on Monday night. Monday evening we tried again and after multiple delays including several while sitting on the runway, we arrived in La Guardia at 2AM having missed t

A quiet summer interlude

We are in the summer season of travel. We were home from Taos for only two days before we sent Davis to Texas on Monday and then left (or tried to leave ourselves the following Sunday). But during the week we enjoyed being home. I ran errands, Sam went to tennis, Michael and played pingpong. I took the kids to the pool. We watched the world cup. Sam played long hours at Puma park with his friends. We took the kids to the Highlands Ranch Ice Cream Social. We played Catan with Kara and Ben. I worked in my yard. I walked the dogs. We went and spent Saturday downtown at the Slow Food festival and then noodled around downtown. It was hot. But the sun was shining and we live in an absolutely beautiful town.

We spent a lovely week in Taos with the Lifford. It was difficult getting there as the La Veta pass was closed due to a terrible wildfire, but we made it eventually. We listened to old comedy shows to pass the time in our rental car and the kids were brilliant in the back. (We had Graham and Sam in our car.) The dogs came along and we all did just fine. We arrived in Taos and after a brief hiccup (we forgot our keys) we were in the house and happy. We went to the Gorge and had dinner and when we got back, Cheris had met Rob in Santa and Fe and had returned and we were a complete party. I had picked up a paper in town and realized that the entire Carson National Forest was closed due to wildfire danger. Nooooooooooo! All my dreams of hiking came crumbling down around me. We had to come up with new fun. Michael and Cheris and Rob all had work to do, but we partied around it. On Sunday we went white water rafting and had fun even though the water was SO LOW. That evening we grilled an
