Sam's Journal: Easter Edition

Image
Yesterday was Easter. It was amazing for an easter in quarantine. I woke up and ran to my Easter basket to find a single egg. (Just for reference, I usually have candy and toys in my basket.) This time it was only one egg. So I opened it up and it had a little scroll in it. It was a clue. So I went to where the clue said and there was another egg and it had a clue in it. So I followed all of the clues until the final one. It said something like this, "Your prize awaits beyond the gates of the downstairs closet". Something like that. So then I went into the big downstairs closet and there was a gift bag!! In it there was a minifig bag with like ten in there. There was a lego book, a box of non dairy chocolate covered pretzels, two books, a "would you rather" game book, and a game called "Not Parent Approved". Anyways, Davis got up and did his egg hunt and Mimi did a scavenger hunt as well. Then I

Daily Life in Quarantine

We walk the ranch. It's beautiful. We cook. We swim. We work on zoom. Mom and Paul had a date upstairs. We watch Treme. We work puzzles. Paul baked a million amazing bread goods. We delivered a birthday surprise to Lilliana's front porch. Davis drives his RC car and rides my bike. (his is still in the shop in Denver). Sam jumps on the trampoline. We swim after school and at recess. Michael works in the hippy house. We do it all over again. Luckily we are in paradise. My daily walks include pigs, coyote, snake, longhorn, dogs, flowers, river, lakes, herons, fish, turtles, budding trees and lots of birdsong.

Sam's Journal 4/6/20

In the last few weeks, there have been a lots of ups and down. But I'm an optimist so let's start with the parts. Davis had his birthday party. He is 15! He got a new nerf gun, an RC car, and a lot of $money$. We did a clue themed murder mystery thing. I played Miss Scarlet so I had to wear a dress and high heels. We had to guess and find out who murdered Miss White. It was a lot of fun and Mr. Green AKA Davis was the murderer. So I have left the best news for last. Davis and I got really nice lightsabers. I ordered mine April 1st so it will come hopefully soon. Davis ordered his a few days later. I got a new game on my Ipad. It is ark. In it you try to survive on an Island filled with dinosaurs. It is free and really fun. I am going to do an unboxing and review video on my lightsaber. The company is called Rebel Sabers. This what my saber looks like. It has all the colors, a duel worthy blade, 6 different sound fonts, mute and a one year warranty. This is the bad cons of qua

Okay to cut this short, crazy stuff happened the last week. First, the day after I wrote my last entry, Texas said that they were going to call a shelter in place starting the next day. So we had our day at the beach. It was super super fun until the next day. You see half of this beach trip was so we could clean up the condo from the hurricane remodeling so we had to all that in 3 hours and pack. It was incredibly hectic. After wiping down all the counters, sweeping all of the floor, packing all the food, we were ready to go. The drive was okay, nothing crazy happened. We got home and had a few chill days in the pool just hanging out. Then we got an idea... What if we got a big trampoline!!!! That made me really happy. I started researching tramps and soon saw a 14 foot sky zone netted $209.99 trampoline available for pickup at Academy in San Marcos! We picked up the trampoline, found a great spot for it in the field. Then we built it! After hours of building in the hot sun it was rea

Today (or maybe yesterday) is national puppy day...Okay just wanted to get that out of the way, let's get back to where I left off. So we were trucking along in Texas just passing time on those rainy days and we were getting bored and lonely. We couldn't swim, flip or bike. I was telling my mom that I was lonely, and bored. And she decided to buy us lego sets, Giant Lego sets. Davis got a train that can really drive and he got extra train track. I got an awesome haunted high school with ghost minifigs. The next day was soooo much better! We went fishing and the sun came out so we swam, and we built our lego sets. Later that day my mom comes out and says we are going to the beach...so we frantically packed and the next morning we went to the beach. Mimi and Paul are staying in 509 and we are in 101. Today we went out in the waves. We swam, boogie boarded and we poured glop AKA wet sand all over me. That was really fun. We dug a big hole and I made a ramp for Davis's RC car.

Pandemic Daily Life

So, we live on the ranch now. I don't know when we will go home. We are planning on staying at least through the end of the month of April. School's aren't going back to in person teaching/learning for the year. Models predict Colorado's Covid cases will peak the third week of April and Texas will peak the first or second week of May. So we stay in this gorgeous house with the people we love. It's the best place to be. I walk miles round and round the ranch. We do puzzles. We organize and cook and drink wine. We play games. The last 5 days have been rain, rain, cold grey clouds, rain, which make us crazy, but it could be worse. We get fresh eggs and meat from the ranch. We got to the store once a week for groceries. I wore my bandana around my face and gloves last Thursday and then we painstakingly wiped each grocery item down. We work remotely- Michael at the hippy house with his new job (same company different positio
