Davis is a Squire

Today Davis' new elementary school held their Early Act First Knight award ceremony. This is a character education program sponsored by Rotary Clubs across the US> The program is based on the ancient code of chivalry and the students learn about responsibility, respect, friendliness, compassion, perseverance, tolerance. discipline, confidence. and honesty. They have a little lesson on one of those topics a month for ten minutes each a day. This month was responsibility. Davis was nominated by his teacher to win the award for his class this month.
It was a very moving and very sweet ceremony. Davis had no idea it was coming. Mom, Dad, G.G., Gramp and Michael and I showed up and they kept us in the conference room with other parents until show time. Then they brought us in to the cafeteria where the kids were all waiting. They had a suit of armor on the stage with a red carpet and a kneeling pillow. The principal came out and they all recited the four way test:
Of the things we think, say or do
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The kids knew the whole thing. I liked it. I kind of want to keep that in my house. And make all politicians answer it, but that's not the point here.
Each teacher then stood up and read something about the student in their class. The student came up the red carpet, knelt on the stool and a real live knight put a real medal around their necks. Here's what Davis' teacher said,
"Davis is a very responsible student. He listens to his teachers and follows directions in our classroom. I can always count on Davis to come in with a smile and be ready to work. HIs excitement for learning is contagious! DAvis is always willing to help a friend in need. He hows kindness and responsibility in the way he treats his friends. He does his homeowrk each night and remembers to turn his folder in daily. I ams o happy to have Davis in my class this year. Davis, you are an Early Act First Knight Squire!"
This is where I bawled like a baby. I was so proud. Davis was too. You should have seen the grin that child had on his face. Davis' good friends Mason and Sadie were recipients also and it was great to see them up there as well.
After the ceremony we took pictures and walked him back to class. He was so pleased. I can't wait to hear him tell Sam all about it after school. I'm so glad Davis is doing well in his new school and it is always so nice and gratifying to hear other people say kind things about your child. It was a good day.

Wow! Amazing!
I'm just proud when Violet comes home without a note from the teacher in her folder.
Sigh...
