Walter Family Reunion in Port A
We had a wonderful family reunion this weekend. The Walters do it right. Almost the entire family was there (people very seldom miss unless there is a very big reason). We had a big house with a pool and game room and screened porch and fire pit as our home base. We met there on Thursday night and had a big grill out and got to hang with everyone. We celebrated Michael's Aunt Teri's birthday and laughed and hugged and chatted while the kids swam. These reunions only happen every two years and we have lots to catch up on. There are lots of families with children around our age and so we all have people to play with. We and Michael's brother's family and parents stayed at our condos, but we spent all our time with the family.
Friday morning we played on the beach with our immediate family in front of our condos and then met at the big house for family meeting where we all go in order from oldest of the original siblings to youngest and spend a few minutes sharing what is going on in our lives. This is very helpful and I enjoy hearing about everyone and not having to repeat our story a hundred times. We had a quick lunch and then headed to the beach near the big house where we spent a joyous afternoon. That evening we ate a delicious mexican dinner and spent time with family. We were supposed to do our sing-along that night, but it was late so we called it.
Saturday we spent all day on the beach with our family. The kids all played in the water and caught minnows and crabs and made sand castles and boogie boarded. We ate lunch under the EZ up and didn't come in till mid afternoon. That evening we dined at the big house and then did our family sing-along which I always enjoy and then the kids put on a talent show. We loved it! My boys and Lilliana and I did a puppet show of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and Lilliana did the macarena. The other kids did songs and skits and even a precious tap routine! We have a lot of talent in our youngest Walter generation.
Sunday morning we met early for family pictures and then had a baby shower for cousin Erika. Then we had to say our goodbyes. I wish we could have a reunion every year! I really do love Michael's family very much and have so much fun. This was my favorite so far as my kids were so much more independent and I was able to spend more time enjoying myself and not chasing toddlers. The kids never went to bed before 9:30PM and we were all running on joy and fumes.
We got home Sunday afternoon, but the reunion was not totally over as Michael's brother and sister-in-law and our nephews were coming to stay on the ranch till Tuesday. We had a pool party Sunday evening, but we were all exhausted.
Monday we drove out to New Braunfels to have lunch at the Huisache Grill with my in-laws, but Michael had to go out of town for work so he wasn't able to join us. We shopped at a few stores and then went to Landa Park and rode the train. I took the kids and Lilliana home, but we met back up with the Walters for dinner at Casa Maria. They left early this morning.
It was a great weekend. Now I have three days to do laundry, clean house, take care of my grandparents, pack and get ready for our summer vacation to Taos. I'm so excited to get to spend lazy long days with some of our best friends.
