Settling In

Image
We are settling in. The bar is built downstairs. We still need to tile the back, but it looks and feels great. Michael and I had a nice, busy weekend. Samuel was still under the weather, so we took it easy, getting chores done and hanging out. We drove around Saturday afternoon to look at the local activity center and skate park and stopping in at a local festival, which proved charming and fun. Davis rode a new one wheeled motorized skateboard and now is obsessed. We spent the evening playing a family game of Star Wars monopoly which Samuel won fair and square. Sunday we worked and worked and worked on the garage. You can actually do thing in there. I think we are officially completely unpacked. Sunday evening we hosted a happy hour for our neighbors. We had three couples come over and tons of kids. It was really fun. Michael and I went this morning and got our Colorado license plates. We meant to get new drivers licenses as well, but were lacking the correct documentat...

This Week in Littleton

Image
This week, the moving truck arrived. Mom and I worked like devils from dawn to dusk unloading and unpacking and cleaning and breaking down boxes. It was the hardest I've ever worked, I think. Michael got back into town on Friday and mama left on Saturday. I hated, hated, hated watching her leave. I wish she would live here with us forever. But she went on to Taos and we stayed here to settle in. She will come back and visit lots, I hope. We opened presents briefly on Sunday Funday and then worked on the house some more. Monday evening we got a sitter service to watch our kids since Samuel had a fever and Michael and I hosted our friend Tracy and Tate for happy hour and then we went to Red Rocks to see Ferris Bueller's Day off. We tailgated and made merry and made it through half the show before we had to come home to relieve the babysitter. Davis and Samuel are in camp this week and LOVE it. Sam couldn't go until yesterday due to the fever, but he had a wonderf...

Celebration of Life for Dad

Image
It's been almost a month since my dad died. I still can't think too much about it. I'm not ready to face that reality. I tiptoe around it and think of other things as hard as I can. I'm not ready to look through pictures and reminisce. I will be ready, and I love to hear stories, but not yet. Michael was gracious enough to ignore father's day for me. He opened a couple of presents in the morning for what we called "special Sunday Funday" and then we just worked on unpacking the house. I owe him a special day later on. He's the best husband ever. I did want to put some pictures of my dad's celebration of life here on the blog, though. It was a beautiful party, held on the Sunday of memorial day weekend. We used marigolds as a theme and Tiffany and Mom and I planned a party help us celebrate dad. Tiff made us shirts that said "Lucky Girl". We had ice cream and cigars and scotch on hand, Dad's favorite things. We put out t...

Denver Moving-No furniture week

Image
We are still in our new house. My mom has arrived (happiness!!!!!) and my husband has left for the week to work in El Paso (sadness). We still have no furniture, but it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Many things are not right in the house. My friend Cheris always rolls her eyes and says "Granada!" when things are weird and not easily explained in their adopted city in Spain. We say, "Val!", the name of the previous owner, who is lovely and wonderful, but who made very odd choices, like the hole in the bathroom where the medicine cabinet used to be which was covered by a painting nailed over it. I really think she thought it a home improvement choice. Michael spent all last weekend assembling Ikea furniture. He is amazing. He also hung curtains as NONE of the curtains in then house are usable. Mom and I shop and buy and shop and buy and putter and clean. The kids have made friends in the neighborhood and are building endless forts in our empty living roo...
