Update on Sam and Life

Sam is better. He is not well, as he as chronic pain, but we have gotten it back down to a manageable level. We went on Thursday to see a pediatric psychologist at the headache clinic and then saw our neurologist again. She is an expert in pediatric migraines and we are so lucky to be her patient. She gave us a new preventative and we again tried some nasal dHE. This time, something worked as the pain levels went from a 7 to a tolerable two over 24 hours. The psychologist also gave us some, hard, but good advice, explaining that we had to send Sam to school, even in pain. He needs a normal life and sometimes it will hurt him. We also have to stop asking him how he is or if his head hurts. It's very difficult. For all of us. Sam was plenty pissed after the psychologist appointment, but I appreciated the guidance and reminder that we had to keep living our life. Samuel made it through a partial day on Thursday and all day on Friday, even getting some work done in after care with his good friend Sasha. The school is implementing a 504 plan for him and he has been excused from all non-essential assignments to help him catch up from missing so much school. He is on an independent math study and that should help too.

By the love and grace of our neighbors, Kara and Ben, Davis was able to go snowboarding this weekend after all. They took him up to Keystone. We got his snowboard fixed up with new bindings and he had the best time. We stayed home and worked and tried to put our life back together after two weeks in the hospital in crisis mode. I went to costco and paid bills and Michael worked. I got our Vietnam trip organized and began printing out all the documents and making sure we have all we need. We leave in 11 days! We also played Catan with the Danielson's which is always a good time.
Michael flew out to Kansas City today and Sam played in the hood like a normal kid and Davis is sitting at the kitchen table with his friend, Kai, working on their science fair project and planning their joint birthday party.
We had sun today even though Colorado is freezing cold and brown and snowy. I'm tired of winter. I have the winter blahs. It is not helped by the fact that I think I have a sinus infection.
The best news ever, though, is that my mama is flying in tonight! She is going to help us through this week while Michael is gone and I am so, so, so happy, because I have missed her so much.
And that's the update.
