Winter Park Weekends

For two weekends in a row, we have rented our favorite condo from our friends and spent the weekends in Winter Park. It is SO fun! Davis has a trestle downhill pass and we meet our friends the Rileys and the Perrys (our mountain bike family) and the kids ride all day, I hike around in the mountains and we have communal dinner either at the rigs or at the condo.

The first weekend we met everyone up there after the Heritage back to school dance which turned out to be a germ factory. I drove up Aidan and Sam after school on Friday. We unpacked and then had a lovely dinner at Lime before coming back to the condo where the boys watched John Wick and I took a long bath. Michael, Davis and Garrett came up late after the dance and we all fell asleep. That Saturday was lovely, but quite cold. Sam and G tried downhilling with the others and really enjoyed it. Michael and I got an activity pass and did the alpine slide a lot of times. We read in our adirondack chairs by the lift and ate lunch at the top of the mountain with Joel and Steve. That night we had jambalaya communal dinner at the rigs.  The next morning, Coach Christine and some teammates met us up at the rigs for a morning of downhilling for the boys. Sam and Garrett didn't ride that day, but got an activity pass instead and had a great time.

The second weekend, we drove up with Michael, Sam, Davis and Garrett in two cars with bikes and food and puppies. We got there in time for a quick dinner of frozen pizzas and then headed over to the Cabriolet field to watch an outdoor movie (Jurassic Park). It was really fun and a cool set-up, but we weren't dressed warmly enough and so we only made it 3/4 of the way through. Next year we will do it a lot (it's every Friday in the summer) and know to wear lots of coats and blankets! The next morning all the kids did some downhilling (Sam and G have joined in the fun!) and Michael and I (and Rosie) hiked the black diamond trail to the top. The weather was GORGEOUS- sunny and just the right temperature. We rewarded ourselves with french fries and brats at the top of the mountain and then rode the gondola down. We had a rest and then enjoyed the band in the pavilion and some shopping before heading back to the condo to prepare taco night for communal dinner. We had everyone over to the condo and we ate and chatted and watched the broncos game until bedtime. Sunday morning, Davis rode some more and we took S and G to the skate park which was absolutely lovely. We ordered sandwiches from Rudi's deli for lunch before packing up, picking up Davis and heading home. Winter Park is a very happy place for us.
