Pinewood Car Derby Race, Education Fair and Tough Mudder

Michael woke up early in anticipation for the Tough Mudder. He woke up early several times, but finally got up at 6AM and was on the road at 6:30. I wished him luck and then focused on the day.
I cleaned the house and got the kids ready and by 8:30 AM we left the house to head to Dick's Classic Car garage where Davis participated in his very first derby race with the cub scouts. He and his dad had worked really hard on his car and made a Mach 5 with Speed Racer as his driver. It was a very cool car.
They did four heats. Davis came in second in every one of his heats. They took the winners of those heats and raced them against each other to find the winners. Davis was not too disappointed that he didn't win. We had tried to prep him for a loss just in case, and it seemed to work. He was very happy that his car had gone over 200 miles an hour. Sam burst into tears at Davis' loss, however. Seems I forgot to prep the brother. He eventually got over it though and all was well.
After the race we drove over to the Embassy Suites hotel for the San Marcos Education Fair. It was wonderful. I learned so much and talked to many people. The kids loved it too.
We met Mom, Stacy and Lilliana there and after we picked up Dad, we all went to eat lunch at Los Cucos. I love the salsa there so much and the food is great, but the service is so consistently bad that I just don't think I can patronize the restaurant again. I'll have to get their salsa to go and take it over to Casa Maria.
We came home and had a wonderful playdate with Stacey and Chris and the girls and waited for Michael to come home. He eventually came home around 6:30PM. He was filthy. He had mud all over him, marker on his face, a shaved head and he was sore and exhausted. He was happy to see us though and he had a celebratory Guiness and dinner. He got to spend some time with our friends and kids and stayed proud and cheerful as he told us about his day.
Michael rocked the tough mudder and did two obstacles the other teammates wouldn't even try. He did every obstacle, even the electricity and made it across the A-frame monkey bars and balance beam without falling. His teammate said he was the strongest team member all the way around. I was so proud. He's been running 7 miles every other day, doing strength training and pilates on opposite days. He's worked so hard for this and it was quite an accomplishment.
After we put the kids to bed he took a long bath and got clean. We put on our jammies, watched Downton Abbey and crawled into bed. It was a great, exhausting day.
