Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

This post is going to be pictures. Lots of lots of pictures. I can't help it. San Juan was picturesque. We spent two nights in Old San Juan in a small house we rented online. It was on Calle Sol and was absolutely gorgeous and authentic. We had our kitchen and dining room in the courtyard and Davis and Samuel slept in a loft above our room which they adored.
We ate fabulous tapas, we visited both San Felipe del Morro Fort and Castillo de San Cristobal. The forts were fantastic. We walked through the tunnels and saw the dungeons and climbed on cannonballs and took pictures of the views through the turrets. We flew a kite on the grounds of the Morro fort twice. We walked the blue cobblestone streets of Old San Juan and shopped. Michael and I visited a hat maker and bought hats. We walked through the gates of the old city walls and bought Passion fruit sorbet from a street vendor. We bought mallorcas and espressos in the plaza and sat on a park bench while we ate them. The kids fed and chased pigeons. We celebrated with the masses the 11th and 12th day of Christmas and attended two free evening concerts in the plaza, performed by locals on a stage dominated by a wooden cutout of the three kings. We ate lots of paella and saffron and seafood and beans and rice and plantains and mofongo. We walked up and down the streets some more and took pictures. We shopped in the local grocery store. We visited the the San Juan Cathedral and the tiny chapel Capilla de Cristo. I tried three different kinds of sangria. The weather was warm, but the winds that come all the way from the coasts of Africa blew constantly and kept us from ever sweating.
I fell in love with Old San Juan. It was very European and very Spanish and very beautiful. I'm going to go back there someday.
