Sam's camping trip to RMNP

Samuel went with his class and the class above him on a school trip this week. He went with a group called Simply Venture into the Rocky Mountain National Park. They camped in tents at the east portal campground in Estes Park. They did a 9 mile hike, slack lined, jumped in the river, roasted smores, visited a glass shop, went to the visitor's center, played mini golf, saw elk, had a pizza party and had a good time. He had some homesickness in the evenings, but his teacher let him call us as much as he wanted. Despite the unhappiness at bedtime, he still said it was a good trip, that he was glad he went and that it was fun. He also made some great friendships. And the pictures! September is a lovely time in Colorado and we live in such a beautiful place.
Samuel wrote us a letter while he was there and with his permission, I share it here with you.

For Mommy and daddy,
Day 1
Today we did lots of fun things but first we got int he bus and stopped at the same place that we went to get lunch. We played at the same creek and I even fell in again. Then we got to the campsite and set up our tents. Then we played on the slackline for a little bit. Then we went looking for elk. We drove around a little, but didn't find any, then we came back and they were right at the campsite!. We looked at them for a little bit and then we had dinner then I called you! Love you lots!

Day 2
I had kind of a bad night because Tommy snored and Blake needed a night light which was really bright. We had french toast for breakfast and I got tea. Then we went to the hike. It was the longest hike I'd ever been on. But the views were so beautiful. I wished you guys were there. We saw lots of chipmunks and blue jays and magpies. WE stopped in the middle to have lunch at Emerald Lake. We had hot dogs. We also got to go bouldering at a different lake. It was really fun. By the time we were done with the hike I was already really tired, but it was only about 2pm, so we went to the observation center and we watched a documentary about RMNP which was cool. I really thought it was interesting. Then we went to a restaurant and had a pizza party, but I got chicken wings. Then I called you and I made a perfect s'more just like you said! (well I accidentally burnt one side). I love you so much. See you tomorrow! I hope I sleep well! :)
