A Weekend of Fun
We had a great weekend. My parents came up to visit us and see our new digs. They stayed at a great resort very close to our house. Davis was thrilled to see his Mimi and PaPa. They played and played.
Friday we went to Mill Avenue and tried a very cool Italian restaurant. Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe is sort of like a Third Street Promenade on Campus. Lots of bars and restaurants and shops.
Then on Saturday we went to the Phoenix Zoo. We had a great time, though we were exhausted long before we covered the whole thing. We'll have to go back. Davis had never been to the zoo before so this was a big deal. He liked the monkeys, but I think everything was just too big and the animals were to far away. We'll try again though, because the children's section is wonderful. Saturday night we got a sitter and left both the munchkins. I was nervous leaving little Samuel, because it was the first time I had left him with anyone, but it was a good thing. We had an amazing dinner at the resort with my parents with lots of delicious wine. Then we went upstairs to the bar and chatted and sipped some more. It was the best night I have had in a while and made me feel almost like my old self again. I had almost forgotten that I had more to me than just the mama role.
On Sunday, we had a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We got a seven seat Cessna airplane and flew to the Grand Canyon. Davis had his own seat and sat in his carseat. I held Sam in my lap. The Grand Canyon is awesome in the true definition of that word. It is awe inspiring and definitely deserves to be one of the wonders of the world. We flew over Sedona on the way and Flagstaff. There was snow everywhere. Then we flew over the north rim and followed the river to the south rim. We landed at the Grand Canyon airport and our pilot drove us in a van to the actual rim of the canyon. We walked a bit and took some pictures. It was so cold! There was snow on the ground, so Davis got to see snow for the first time. He wasn't too impressed. Then we drove to a different area and saw more of the canyon and learned a little history. Then we had a warm lunch and got back in the airplane. We were exhausted by the end of the day, but it was so, so, so worth it. Sam slept through most of it.
Mom and Dad came over for dinner last night and said their good-byes. Davis is having a hard time with them being gone today. He woke up this morning calling for them. Thank goodness he is learning to talk on the telephone. And we will see them again in a month when we all head for Costa Rica. It was a great weekend.
