Watermelon Thump and Nights on the Town

We have been having a surprisingly fun weekend that has been full of spontaneity. On Friday afternoon I called my cousin Manie begging her to babysit for us so we could go see my dad's band play on Saturday night. She wasn't available, but she did offer to come over for a bit that evening and let us go to dinner. We decided to take her up on it!
Michael and I dashed off to the sushi bar at Kobe Steakhouse. We drank sake and ate sushi and filled out Michael's survivor application. It was so fun! Then we came home and sprawled on the couch and watched Sex and the City. We're on the last season and it's getting so exciting!
Saturday was the Luling Watermelon Thump. This is a festival that looked interesting to us and is in a town that is only about twenty minutes away. We decided to try it. We loaded up after nap and headed that way. It was HOT, another over 100 degree day. So hot that we only stayed for about an hour before we grabbed some watermelon slices for the kids and ran for the car and the AC.
The drive home was an adventure. We detoured through a little town called Martindale which is just precious. The river runs through the town and it is beautiful. We had a great time exploring. When we got home we walked through the heat down to our little piece of river below our house and let the kids chunk rocks in the river. We can't wait till the kids get old enough to let us all jump in!
Last night we had another spontaneous outing. When Manie told us she was unavailable for sitting, she recommended a friend who often babysat around town and that friend was available! She came over around 6:30 and we were out the door! Right as we were leaving, our fabulous friends Chris and Stacey called and said that they wanted to come with us! We met a restaurant in Wimberley called Cedar Grove Steakhouse. It was delicious food and wonderful wine. We splurged a bit, but had such a good time.
And then we caravaned back to San Marcos to Cheatham Street, where my dad's band, The Lucky Tomblin Band, was playing. We got pint jar glasses of beer and danced to country music and had a great time. I saw lots of people there and was just so excited to hear my dad play and get to enjoy a night out in our new home town.
Next time I hope you can join us!
