Gillespie County Fair

We went to Stonewall, Tx this weekend with my parents. They have a small farmhouse there that they found, bought and restored. They searched for that particular farmhouse because my grandmother grew up there.
She went to a very small school a few miles away with Lyndon B. Johnson. She was jealous of him though, since he got to ride a mule to school and all the rest of the children had to walk. You know what they say about those rich, mule riding kids- they grow up to be president.
Anyway, we drove up there Saturday and enjoyed the cool seventy degree weather. It was amazing! That afternoon we headed into Fredericksburg and attended the fair.
It was fantastic. We got to see antique tractors and Davis got to sit on them. We rode all kind of carnival rides and both Davis and Sam were beside themselves with the joy and thrill of those. We went inside and saw all the canned goods and vegetables and crafts and saw which ones were awarded blue ribbons. We went back outside and watched a real life horse race where they were taking bets and everything.
Then we went out for a most fabulous dinner at the Cabernet Grill. The food was amazing and the grounds were beautiful which was a good thing since the kids were so wound up they refused to sit still in the restaurant and Michael and I spent most of our time taking turns outside with the kids.
That night we put the kids to bed and then Mom and Dad and Michael and I sat in rocking chairs on the front screened in porch and talked about God and drank red wine. It was pretty perfect.
The next day we drove to the Walmart and got some new toys that MiMi and the boys thought were necessary. Then we went to town and got to hear Doug Fesler play on the front porch of the Silver Creek in downtown Fredericksburg. It was a really wonderful weekend. Thanks Mom and Dad!
Enjoy the pics! Amber

I heart Fredricksburg. Such a great little town. And the canned goods...I know the place you're talking about because we always get pickled beans from there. Ask them about the family riff if you haven't heard about it already. Ahhh...small town drama :)
