Open House

Davis had his open house at his Montessori school last Friday. He was so excited about it. For the weeks proceeding the big night, he would tell us all about their plans and kept telling Sammy that his mommy and daddy were going to come inside his school.
On Friday evening we all dressed up, dropped off Sam at my parents house and headed for his school.
The children invited us in, showed us where to hang out coats and walked to the little rugs on the floor where their name cards were placed. Davis began demonstrating one of his works. It was the moveable alphabet where he picks out letters, says them phonetically and finds it match from a tray of wooden letters. It was awesome to see his knowledge.
Then he carefully put all those materials away and took us to a small table where he invited us to sit down and went to another room to get his whisk exercise. This involved a tray full of glass items that he carried around and did not break. On his way to return a full glass bowl of water to the sink after his exercise, he spilled a tiny bit. This didn't phase him. He continued carrying the bowl to the sink, rinsed and dried it with a cloth. Then he went to kitchen and got a towel, wiped us his mess, took the towel to the bathroom and hung it up with clothes pins so it would dry. Then he returned to the bowl, took it back to the tray with the other materials and returned to the tray where he had gotten it. We were so impressed.
Then he showed us how he could grate nutmeg with a real grater and pick dried corn off the cob with tweezers.
After his work he invited us to have refreshments. The snacks were all made by the children and were precious. Davis poured us water from a glass pitcher into cups and served us. We enjoyed the refreshments and then walked around looking at some of the other children's work.
We saw a four year old doing real math, a five year old demonstrating real knowledge of world geography, another four year old discussing an equilateral triangle, and a six year old reading his parents a book on ecology. We are so excited that Davis gets to go to this school.
We took several pictures and a video of the whisk exercise. Hope you enjoy. XXOO, Amber
