Rent, Rain, Fundraiser and the Zoo

This weekend was crazy. Michael drove in from Dallas on Friday afternoon about 10 minutes before I walked out the door to meet my friend, Alicia and my family for dinner in Austin. After dinner, we all went to see the musical Rent. It was fantastic. The music is not my thing, but the cast was so phenomenal I didn't care. Mom and Dad had just gotten back from NYC the day before and they agreed that the cast was just as good as what they saw on Broadway. No surprise there, since almost everyone in the cast had been on Broadway a lot of times. I really enjoyed it.
Saturday morning we woke up and headed for the town square. I helped set up a booth at the Texas Natural and Swing Music Festival where we put out silent auction items and set-up facepainting all for the purpose of raising money for Davis' Montessori scholarship fund. I had been working on this fundraiser all year and helped coordinate the whole thing.
We got it set-up and the auction items were really, really good. We had a neat raffle item and kids were getting all painted up at our booth. Michael took the kids to get their hair cut at the barber across the street and then chased them around the festival to look at live horses, toy booths and all sorts of art booths.
And then it started to rain. And rain and rain and rain. The music of course shut down. All spectators including Michael and the boys left. And the people in the booths watched everything get drenched and shuddered and froze in the freezing wet rain. We waited and hoped, but eventually realized the day could not be saved. We gathered up the bid sheets and items and clinging to an umbrella to shelter the goods, we ran through the rain to get our auction items to a car. Then we drove all of them to my house where they now sit. This is devastating because this is our only fundraising drive for our school scholarship fund and we made no money. We are hoping to come up with a different plan for our items today. Wish us luck. On the positive side, we got 1.5 inches of rain that we desperately needed.
We spent the afternoon at my mom and dad's house with Kade and Liliana and attended my cousin Lily's boyfriend's graduation party that had been moved from the river up to my parent's porch area due to the rain. It was actually really fun.
Sunday dawned sunny and cool and we decided to use our membership and head down to the San Antonio zoo. We invited Mom and Dad and Lilliana and Kade and we all headed down there for a fantastic day. The weather was great and they had so much fun. We rode the train again which I love and came home. It was a nice day.
Today I have to figure out what to do about this auction!
Love to you all, Amber
