5th Birthday Party, San Antonio Zoo, and Witte Museum

Last weekend was fun, but crazy! We started with Davis' 5th birthday party, held at Pinnacle Cheer. We had the entire gym from 2-4 and we made use of it with 27 children in attendance. The kids ran and bounced and played. The theme of the party was Dinosaur Train, which is Davis' favorite tv show featuring his favorite obsession right now, Dinosaurs. Michael made a fun playlist on his ipod for the party and I made a cake. Davis decided at the last moment that he wanted a pinata instead of favor bags, so my mom dashed off and found him a race car pinata (his second choice if dinosaurs weren't available) and I stuffed it with the favors I had planned on putting in the bags. We had dino gliders, dinosaur train stickers, tattoos, plastic "dino" eggs stuffed with Robin's eggs candy. I also had lollipops in shape of dinosaurs in a basket as additional favors.
The party went well and Davis had a great time. I had been worried that he would be overwhelmed with so many people after his teacher told me you should only have as many people as twice their age. But he did great. He didn't seem overwhelmed at all and loved every moment.
After the party we went to our house and Cheris and Rob and Violet and Graham all came with us! They had come to spend the weekend with us! They stayed in the hippie house and not counting the early morning rooster, I think they liked it okay. We all poured a drink (an after-birthday party necessity) and then watched Davis open his presents and all the kids play with all the toys. I also was keeping my nephew Kade for the weekend. We ate dinner and then put the kids down and basically collapsed. Cheris and I lounged on the couch and watched Project runway, but it was definitely low key.
Sunday morning began with renewed energy. We bounced out of bed, made coffee and pancakes and waffles and loaded up in the cars to head for San Antonio.
We stopped and picked up Stacy and Lilliana and then drove down to the zoo. We love the zoo and have a membership and wanted to go one more time before our membership expired. We also wanted to see the new Africa Live exhibit. The weather was cool and sunny and absolutely perfect. The animals were alert and we missed most of the crowds.
After hitting the sights for a couple of hours and grabbing a quick lunch, we got on the train and rode over to the Witte Museum to see their dinosaur exhibit. The dinosaur exhibit was really cool to the grown-ups and Kade, but scared the bejeezus out of Davis. We stayed there only briefly to let the kids dig in the sand pit before we headed back into the main museum area to explore. The children enjoyed the indoors, but really loved the HEB tree house out back. It is a fantastic children's museum with tons of great, hands on exhibits. After a couple of hours there we got back on the train and rode back to our car where we said our goodbyes and went back home.
It was a really fun weekend with great friends, beautiful weather and many wonderful memories.

We LOVED it! I thought that the rooster was more funny than anything else, country girl that I am. City-boy Rob may have thought otherwise... but a noisy bird is not enough to ruin his fun.
