Day 2: Seattle
We woke up extremely early on our second day in Seattle (5AM). The two hour time difference was still affecting us. We got up, had coffee and milk and got dressed. Then we decided to walk down to Pike Place Market to see it setting up without the crowds.
The weather was cold and brisk and there was hardly anyone around. We took a walk along the water and Davis had a great time leaping around the totem pole in the plaza area. Then we went across the street and got coffee at the original Starbucks.
It was almost eight by now so we headed down the Market to see the men throwing fish. There had been a huge crowd there the day before, but this early in the morning there was hardly anyone there. It was wonderful.
We went back to the hotel to see if Steve, Melissa and kids were stirring yet and they were! We went back down to the market as a group and went to breakfast. It was delicious! Then we decided to walk a few blocks down to the monorail and go to the Seattle Center. This was an easy stroll and the Monorail is very interesting. The boys sat in front and loved every bit of it.
The Space Needle was tall and I'm glad I did it, because the views were really nice, but it made me just a bit queasy. While we were up there, Katie called to say that she and Soren had arrived. We met them at the base of the needle and after playing a bit in the gorgeous grass, we went to the Children's Museum. It was great and though we played there for almost two hours, we still did not get to half of it. It puts our Children's museum to shame.
Then we went to have lunch in the bottom of the Experience Music Project and the Science Fiction Museum and then walk around the two. Katie's friend Eric joined us and gave us a good description of Seattle. We debated touring either or both of those museums, but we all agreed it might be too hard with kids. Eric also suggested that we try underground Seattle, but we finally decided that might be too much work also, though it goes on the list for the next time we go to Seattle.
We ended up going outside to play on the lawn. We had great fun just enjoying the weather. We took a leisurely stroll back to the monorail and then to the hotel. When we got there, we played and chatted. We put our boys down and then made a run for some delicious falafel and gyro and brought it back to the room. We watched people on the street below and relaxed. It was a nice quiet evening and a great day.
