Snow, Soup Swap, Weekend

Image
Last weekend was cold and snowy. Like it's January in Colorado, I guess, but this is the coldest, snowiest winter we've had yet. Friday night the kids went to Snobahn and then watched Wonderstruck for family movie night in the lounge by the fire. Saturday, Davis had Owen's birthday party at Main event and coincidentally, we had plans to go to Main Event with Suzy while she kept Christin's kids while Christin was in the hospital. We all hung out at Main Event while the kids played, sipping club soda and playing Catan. It passed the time and the kids had a blast. Saturday evening, we hosted Catan night and had a splendid time. Sunday was church, where I sang with a quartet, and then Davis and Michael went to cyber patriot practice while I tidied up the house. That evening, I hosted soup swap and Michael took the boys to Snobahn. Soup swap was really fun and we had a good crowd of women. The soups were all delicious sounding and satisfying swaps were had. That evening...

20 Year College Reunion

Image
Last weekend, I attended my twenty year college reunion. It was absolutely magical. Tucson is amazing. I'd forgotten how much I loved it there. It is beautiful in a way that only desert can be. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides and the air is cool at night and warm in the day. We stayed at the Arizona Inn which is fabulous and retro and gorgeous and lush. It was populated by older people who had martinis before dinner and lounged by the pool with their newspapers. It has a very palm springs kind of feel. Nine of our class showed up- Jay and his wife Heather, Ralph, Jodi and Scott, Tate, Linda, Tommy, Cassie, Caryn and myself, plus Michael. We missed the few who didn't, Marchelle, Erika, Ravi, Larry, but it was still amazing to be together. Back in college we had class together M, W, and F from 8-3, then rehearsal from 5-7 and 8-11 We spent LOTS of time together. We became family. And it still felt like family. We teased and played and commisserated and were ourselves ...

January

After Snow Mountain Ranch, we had a week of getting back into the routine. Michael was home, but working and I was busy running errands, responding to emails and getting back in my groove. I also met with my FFRE committee in a snowstorm and shot a local commercial. That weekend we had drinks at Bar Louie with Suzy while the kids were at Snobahn, then played Dominoes with Jason and Suzy. Saturday Davis competed in the state round of Cyber Patriots and moved onto semifinals and Michael and I attended our broadway series to see Bronx Tale. I thought I would love it, but I didn't. Sigh. Sunday, we attended church and then went over to Kara and Ben's house for the Saints Game. We had yummy snacks and the saints won, so I was happy. Michael flew out to Orlando on Monday. It was cold and I was ready to move out of Colorado. But I went on walk with a friend, and ran a lot, and booked some tickets to see local bands and felt better. Mom flew out on Thursday evening and Friday we had...

Snow Mountain Ranch New Year Trip

Image
After one day at home, we packed up the car with roof rack and back stuffed to the gills and drove to Snow Mountain Ranch. We are YMCA of the Rockie's members and we had booked a five bedroom cabin in the hopes we could go up there over New Year's eve. It worked and we invited Michael's whole family to join us. The cabin was in the most premium location with a gorgeous view. It was warm and cozy and had all the amenities except for limited hot water. Michael's family flew in, rented a car, and drove to meet us there. We had so much fun. We played lots of games including Anomia, One Night Werewolf, Spades and Charades. Michael, Davis and Sam and I took a cross country ski lesson. We all went tubing on the tubing hill. Michael and I took two amazing snow shoe hikes together, one to the top of a mountain where I mailed a letter in God's mailbox to my Daddy. Michael and Sam and Davis went snowboarding with Steve's whole family one day while I hiked up again in my sn...
